Currently Loving: Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950

Today’s Currently Loving guest post is from Laura of Sweeter Salt, who named our Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950:

When I was asked by Turtle Love Co. to name a vintage engagement ring my mind went right to my favorite girls’ name - Clementine! Though unusual, it’s a classic - one of the reasons why I love it. I’ve never actually met a Clementine, but when I think about the name I come up with a few adjective: vivacious, spirited, timeless, and stylish, to name a few. Oh, and I couldn’t help but to think of Clementine’s namesake - the tasty little citrus fruit. To me, “Clementine” is a woman inspired by France, with classic taste, and a love for sunny color.

Can’t you just see her? She’s wearing her gorgeous ring, sipping a French 75, wearing that amazing orange lace dress and serving up some serious wit? Ah, to be Clementine.

To see more about the imagined Clementine, take a closer look at Laura’s style board. Visit Turtle Love Co if you’d like to know more about the Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950.

Currently Loving: Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Band

When we asked our Vintage Style Council member of the month Shell from Kitty and Buck to write a guest post for us about our Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring, she created something truly unique. Below you’ll find a pictorial story she put together that shows the lives of the people who may have originally owned the ring. The images in the collages below come from a pinboard she created on Pinterest.

I created this pin board after seeing the Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring for the first time and wondering how it came to be. I conjured up an images of a young couple meeting and falling in love in the 1950′s, going on dates in milk bars and drive ins, dancing and going bowling.

Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring imagined history, part 1

The part where they realize ‘this is serious’ and tell their friends, family and anyone who will listen. A more comfortable easiness surrounds them, a familiarity with each other.

They are engaged and married and finally, a honeymoon camping under the stars.

Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring imagined history, part 3

The final images show their new life together, forming memories and a future together. I love imagining the life of a vintage item before it came into my life. I hope you enjoyed the journey of the Shelly ring.

The story continues in Shell’s board “The Story of a Sapphire” on Pinterest! You can also visit our website to see more pictures of our Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring.

Fancy Dress Friday: apple picking edition!

We ventured outside of Portland this week for an apple picking adventure! We spent an excellent hour or two on Tuesday afternoon at Orchard Hill Farm in Cumberland picking golden delicious apples (more pictures from that trip later in the post!).

Our featured rings this week are our Alivia Vintage Pearl and Diamond Engagement Ring and our Julia Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring (named for Vintage Style Council Members Alivia of Brunch in April and Julia of Jeeze, Julia respectively). Julia wrote about her namesake ring in the context of classic literary couples and Alivia styled her ring for a chic day in 1950s New York.

We also answered some commonly asked questions this week in our posts “Do your wedding bands need to match?” and “Does your engagement ring have to have a diamond?” Both posts explored the alternatives to traditional rings and recommended ones like our Gold Pink Tourmaline Engagement Ring and our Organic Gold Wedding Ring. Do you have any jewelry questions you’d like us to answer? Email us at [email protected]

Do your wedding bands need to match?

Picking out wedding and engagement rings can be a journey filled with lots of questions; do engagement rings needs to have a diamond? Which hand should you wear your wedding and engagement ring on? Do your wedding bands need to match? We’ve offered some insight to these first two questions, but today we’re thinking about whether wedding rings need to match or not. Traditionally, wedding rings were sold in sets and most wedded couples have upheld the tradition. But in today’s world the ideas of marriage and weddings, and even wedding and engagement rings, range from traditional to anything-but! Your personal style should be your guide. Turtle Love Co encourages you to explore and discover wedding bands that feel authentic and exciting to you and your mate as individuals, because lets face it, your differences are what make things special.

Consider choosing wedding bands that have similar characteristics, but are still unique to each person. Whether something simple and classic is calling your name, or an organic, textured band is more fitting, we can help you find the right combination.

Maybe you love the way gold looks with your skin tone, but your partner loves the gleam of sterling silver. Perhaps your significant other finds stars romantic (hello Constellation Ring!), but you find earthy textures most tantalizing (have you seen the Vine Ring?). Honor each other with rings that bring meaning and significance to the individual, as well as you as a couple.

Currently Loving: Alivia Vintage Pearl and Diamond Engagement Ring

Today’s Currently Loving guest post is from Alivia at Brunch in April, who writes here about her namesake ring, our Alivia Vintage Pearl and Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950:
When I first saw this ring, I thought about Audrey Hepburn, strolling the streets of New York, eating her pastry + sipping her coffee in the quiet morning air. I thought about Allie and Noah laughing, jumping off a rope swing into the pond. I thought about my grandparents, married at 17, now celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. Simple, pretty, comforting loveliness.

Currently Loving: Julia Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring

Our Julia Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring is named after our Vintage Style Council Member of the same name who blogs over at Jeeze, Julia. When she saw the gorgeous antique engagement ring we had named after her she put together a beautiful style board on Pinterest based around the literary and romantic feel of the ring.

As she says: ”This ring tells the story of a Romeo + Juliet, Heathcliff + Cathy, John + Yoko kind of love. A literary romance of fantastic proportions. An intuitive emotional connection so strong that only memory or black + white pages can contain it. The kind of love where a single photograph or love letter is enough to make a bride’s eyes swell with tears sixty years after her wedding day. This ring, when I imagine its wearer, would be a symbol of this greatest type of love, and it has inspired my latest pinboard. I wish each of you this most wonderful all-encompassing romance, and if you haven’t found it yet, don’t feel lonely, fall in love with literature’s classic couples and dream of your own future lover!”

Does your engagement ring have to have a diamond?

There is no denying that diamonds are the standard for engagement and wedding rings, but does your engagement ring have to have a diamond?

The answer is no, as you may have guessed. Here at Turtle Love Co., we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of diamond engagement rings that can fit any budget - but we also offer an array of rings with diamond alternative stones to fit any style. We offer sterling silver as well as gold rings, and we have a plethora alternative gemstones.

It’s raining rings - sapphires, pearls, and white topaz (oh my!) among others!

Some people like a little color in their engagement ring - we offer lots of colorful options, such as sapphires (both blue and pink), amethyst, iolite, blue topaz, garnet, kyanite and tourmaline. We also offer some beautiful pearl engagement rings.

Some people like the look of a diamond, but worry about the price or the ethics of such a precious stone. While many of our artists only work with conflict free diamonds and other stones, white topaz is a beautiful diamond alternative.

If you have questions about our diamond alternative options, conflict-free diamonds, or if you are looking for a ring with a particular gemstone, feel free to email [email protected] - we’re here to help!

Fancy Dress Friday: state necklaces and vintage appreciation edition

Happy Friday, everyone! We’ve had a week full of appreciating new and old things here at Turtle Love Co., including a trip to Goodwill for a thriftventure where we gathered new decorations for our offices and had a great time exploring what the store had to offer (you can see pictures of our finds in this facebook album).

There are also some new additions to the Turtle Love Co. collection of jewelry. Joining the recently added (and adorable!) Mother and Baby Elephant Necklace and Mother and Baby Duck Necklace are a new line of sterling silver state necklaces! The current states available are the California Necklace, Maine Necklace, Massachusetts Necklace, New York Necklace, and Texas Necklace. These are just the first states in the collection and we will be adding more soon (and perhaps even some country necklaces!). If you would like a chance to win one of these state necklaces, we’re sponsoring a giveaway on A Practical Wedding where all you have to do to be entered is to add your wedding venue to their venue directory. Simple! You can learn more about the contest by reading APW’s post about it here.

As you can see in this week’s Fancy Dress Friday photo below, we’re taking some time to re-examine and appreciate the rings in our vintage engagement ring collection. In this picture (from left to right) Aubin is checking the size of our Amelia Vintage Engagement Ring, Alicia is measuring our Rochelle Vintage Diamond Wedding Ring Set, and Emily is taking a closer look at our Avery Vintage Engagement Ring. These are just three pieces of our collection, so take a look at our Vintage Engagement Rings and tell us in the comments here which one is your favorite!

Pearl engagement rings

Pearl jewelry is classic, whether it’s an heirloom pair of pearl earrings or one of Jacqueline Kennedy’s iconic pearl necklaces. The timeless beauty of the pearl also works well in an engagement ring and Turtle Love Co. offers a few different variations of pearl engagement rings that will appeal to pearl lovers everywhere. Here are three of the options:

The stunning 7mm Akoya half pearl at the center of this ring is surrounded by a halo of 11 European cut diamonds and sits atop a band of 14K yellow gold.

Currently Loving: Carmella Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring

When asked if they would like a vintage diamond engagement ring named after themselves, some members of our Vintage Style Council chose instead to name their ring in honor of someone else. Laura from Fore Front Fashion chose to name her vintage diamond engagement ring after her grandmother, Carmella and chose images for her pin board “inspired by my Grandmother and my heritage,” she says. “I have a deep admiration for some of the classic Italian beauties like Isabella Rosselini and Sofia Loren - two of my style icons along with my Grandma Carmy. I just love everything about 1950′s Italy: the red lips, the exaggerated hips, the ladylike silhouettes and the lifestyle. Back when men wore a shirt and tie most days — if only…!”
