Fancy Dress Friday: Halloween edition

This Wednesday was Halloween and everyone at Turtle Love Co. enjoyed dressing up! What do you think of our costumes?

On Monday we enjoyed a guest post from Vintage Style Council member Laura of Sweeter Salt, who told us what inspired her to name our Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring. On Tuesday we addressed the question “how much should an engagement ring cost?” (spoiler alert! There’s no correct answer).

Ahead of Hurricane Sandy we picked some pumpkins to give the office a nice Halloween feel. Here are some pictures from our trip to the pumpkin patch and a look at how some of us chose to decorate ours!

Fancy Dress Friday: apple picking edition!

We ventured outside of Portland this week for an apple picking adventure! We spent an excellent hour or two on Tuesday afternoon at Orchard Hill Farm in Cumberland picking golden delicious apples (more pictures from that trip later in the post!).

Our featured rings this week are our Alivia Vintage Pearl and Diamond Engagement Ring and our Julia Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring (named for Vintage Style Council Members Alivia of Brunch in April and Julia of Jeeze, Julia respectively). Julia wrote about her namesake ring in the context of classic literary couples and Alivia styled her ring for a chic day in 1950s New York.

We also answered some commonly asked questions this week in our posts “Do your wedding bands need to match?” and “Does your engagement ring have to have a diamond?” Both posts explored the alternatives to traditional rings and recommended ones like our Gold Pink Tourmaline Engagement Ring and our Organic Gold Wedding Ring. Do you have any jewelry questions you’d like us to answer? Email us at [email protected]

Fancy Dress Friday: state necklaces and vintage appreciation edition

Happy Friday, everyone! We’ve had a week full of appreciating new and old things here at Turtle Love Co., including a trip to Goodwill for a thriftventure where we gathered new decorations for our offices and had a great time exploring what the store had to offer (you can see pictures of our finds in this facebook album).

There are also some new additions to the Turtle Love Co. collection of jewelry. Joining the recently added (and adorable!) Mother and Baby Elephant Necklace and Mother and Baby Duck Necklace are a new line of sterling silver state necklaces! The current states available are the California Necklace, Maine Necklace, Massachusetts Necklace, New York Necklace, and Texas Necklace. These are just the first states in the collection and we will be adding more soon (and perhaps even some country necklaces!). If you would like a chance to win one of these state necklaces, we’re sponsoring a giveaway on A Practical Wedding where all you have to do to be entered is to add your wedding venue to their venue directory. Simple! You can learn more about the contest by reading APW’s post about it here.

As you can see in this week’s Fancy Dress Friday photo below, we’re taking some time to re-examine and appreciate the rings in our vintage engagement ring collection. In this picture (from left to right) Aubin is checking the size of our Amelia Vintage Engagement Ring, Alicia is measuring our Rochelle Vintage Diamond Wedding Ring Set, and Emily is taking a closer look at our Avery Vintage Engagement Ring. These are just three pieces of our collection, so take a look at our Vintage Engagement Rings and tell us in the comments here which one is your favorite!

Fancy Dress Friday: “thinking inside the jewelry box” edition

How we ship at Turtle Love Co.

Emily demonstrating the different steps of shipping at TLC

Normally, it’s best for a business to think outside the box in order to reach its customers, but what fun is that? If you’re a jewelry company like we are the best things are inside the box, like rings, earrings, and necklaces. With the holidays coming up we’ve been trying to think up some fantastic new items you’d like to put in a box for a loved one. While we can’t reveal too much just yet it’s no secret that some of these pieces are already up on our site! My favorite is our Mother and Baby Elephant Necklace:

On Wednesday, we posted an interview with the Vintage Style Council Member of the Month for October, Shell from Kitty and Buck. Read the interview and get to know her. We have a ring named after Shell as well- our Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring:

If you’re on Pinterest and aren’t following us yet, now is the time to head on over and see what we’re up to! We’ve been building boards around the glittery (silver and gold themed weddings), the green (eco friendly bridal ideas), and the most gorgeous vintage wedding inspiration we can find! Come see what’s inspiring us. In the meantime, we hope you have an excellent weekend and we’ll keep you updated with news of our brand new holiday catalog over the next week or two!

Fancy Dress Friday: wedding ring style and modeling edition

We’re still at work preparing our holiday catalog (we can’t wait for you to see it!) so this past week at Turtle Love Co. headquarters has been delightfully busy! We still found time, however, to share with you posts from our Vintage Style Council members Christine from The Big Mac Blog and Michelle from Maine Belle who told us why they love their namesake vintage engagement rings. You can read the post about our Christine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring by clicking here and the post about our Michelle Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring can be found here.

We also introduced you to a new engagement ring in our collection in our post Meet the Designer: Elizabeth Ryan. The ring in question is our Lovebirds engagement ring, which is available in sterling silver or white gold with either a topaz, sapphire, or diamond. Elizabeth Ryan is the first prize winner in our 2012 Engagement Ring Design contest.

On Sunday our customer service and graphic guru Alicia showed us different styles of wedding bands in her post “From plain to fancy.” What’s your preferred style of wedding band? If you’re looking to buy a ring for your partner and want to surprise them you may not only be wondering what their style is but also what their ring size is. To help you find the right ring size without giving away the surprise Emily put together a post with some tips, including looking at existing rings and enlisting their friends’ help! You can read more tips about finding someone’s ring size here.

Today we took turns modeling some of the new necklaces and earrings that will be on our website in time for the holidays. We did take a brief break, however, to pose with the Turtle Love Committee! After this picture the camera went off again, surprising all of us but making for a photograph too funny not to share.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Do you have any fun plans?

Fancy Dress Friday: “exploring the alternatives” edition

With the onset of cooler weather in the Northern hemisphere, we’ve been falling in love with rose gold all over again! Its color not only reminds us of the beautiful changing leaves of fall but it has a warm feeling that is comforting to see as we get ready for winter. On Tuesday, Aubin showed us two different styles of rings offered at Turtle Love Co. made from this gorgeous metal: the modern, streamlined designs of Jeannie Hwang and the more textured, organic rings by Dahlia Kanner and Midori Ferris Wayne. You can read the full article by clicking here.

We recently put out a call for questions on our Facebook page and received many interesting ones (if you have a question about anything jewelry-related, just email [email protected])! Many people are interested in learning about alternatives to traditional wedding and engagement rings so Alicia and Emily put together articles that help explore some of the alternatives out there. Alicia’s article about “rings that walk the line” gathered together some rings from Turtle Love Co. that transcend common stereotypes of gender and mix both feminine and masculine style elements. Emily looked at some engagement rings and wedding bands in her article that aren’t your standard plain gold ring, including our sterling silver Laurel Leaf Ring by Laura Serrafero. To read Emily’s article, click here.

In other exciting news we had our first local meetup of the Vintage Style Council this past Wednesday. The Vintage Style Council is group of bloggers from around the world who help us spread the word about Turtle Love Co. and we recently let them name a collection of vintage engagement rings (which you can view on our site here). Erin from Just Plain Lovely, Laura from Fore Front Fashion, Alivia from Brunch in April, and Laura from Sweeter Salt joined us at Flatbread in Portland for a lovely dinner and some excellent conversation where we talked about everything from our pet dogs to the differences between New York and Portland and everything in between! Thanks to the Maine members of the VSC for coming out to the meetup and we can’t wait to have more gatherings in the future!

That’s all for now from Team Turtle Love Co.! We have some exciting announcements about a new service and new products next week, but if you’d like a preview in the meantime just hop on over to A Practical Wedding and read Adrianne’s guest post about what’s new at TLC!

Fancy Dress Friday: “all that glitters” edition

This past week at Turtle Love Co. was full of everything that glitters, from gold and silver, to diamonds and sparkly nail polish.

This past weekend, Alicia taught us the best ways to care for some of our rings in her post “On the care and keeping of sterling silver jewelry.” Highlights of the article included answers to frequently asked questions like how to clean silver jewelry that has areas of oxidization in its design and a look at which gems should NOT come in contact with a polishing cloth.

Not all gems are equal when it comes to their care. Pearls, like the one in this Nested White Pearl Engagement Ring, are soft and would be damaged if polished.

On Monday, Vintage Style Council Member Theresa from Despising Life is So Passe shared why she currently loves our Fiona Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring. The ring, which is circa 1950 and features a .14ct brilliant-cut diamond set in a scalloped, raised box setting, was part of a pinboard made by Theresa based around a Fall outdoor wedding reception. If you would like to see this Currently Loving post, click here.

Yesterday, our TLC teammate Emily, who loves painting her nails in new and interesting ways, wrote a post about how to make your engagement ring stand out by painting an accent nail. The ring in her post is our Dainty Blue Topaz Gold Solitaire, which is crafted by Laura Serrafero using 14K satin-finished gold and a 4mm bezel set blue topaz.

We’ve been working on getting all of our newly arrived vintage rings up on the Turtle Love Co. website and even the Turtle Love Committee has been pitching in. They’re seen here attempting to measure our Megan Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring. You can view the ring (with proper non-turtle determined measurements) by clicking here.

Fancy Dress Friday: Fall wedding style edition

Everyone at Turtle Love Co. headquarters has been very busy this week with activities ranging from photographing newly arrived jewelry for our winter catalog to attending social media conferences. Still, we had time to bring you some excellent blog posts. This past weekend we embraced September’s gemstone and put together a list of sapphire rings available on our website, like these pink and blue stackable sapphire rings:

We also gave you a sneak preview on our Facebook page of one of the new products we’ll be offering this spring, our Black Sunfire Post Earrings:

While everyone at Fashion Week was focusing on Spring style, we’re excited to see the trends for Fall weddings. The Turtle Love Committee has spent the morning looking over the latest issues of Southern New England Weddings and MarryME and gathering ideas about Autumnal wedding fashions. What’s your Fall wedding style inspiration?

Fancy Dress Friday: “Hello, September” edition

Hooray for September! It’s the beginning of fall, the start of a new school year, and one step closer to cardigan weather (which we’re all fans of around the office).

This week we announced our Vintage Style Council Member of the Month, Christine from The Big Mac Blog! You can read our interview with her about her style, favorite jewelry, and inspirations here.

We also took a look at some unusual jewelry with Monday’s Currently Loving post by Brooke from Highly Fashion-able about our Bronze Peanut Necklace. Saturday’s post looked at three unusual celebrity engagement rings and their Turtle Love Co. counterparts. You can read that post here.

Lastly, Alicia showed us 7 three-piece engagement and wedding ring sets for under $500, including this beautiful Delicate Silver Band with Gold Nugget set and Delicate Silver band for $355.

Fancy Dress Friday: Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall edition

The leaves aren’t changing yet, but today is the last day of August and it’s certainly beginning to feel like fall in Portland, Maine.

During the past weekend we spent some time in the 1950s with posts about the early reality show “Bride and Groom” that was broadcast between soap operas in the early 1950s and a style post about which pieces of Turtle Love Co.’s jewelry would have fit in with Marilyn Monroe’s style, which featured this lovely collage as well as a look at her diamond eternity wedding band

On the blog this week we saw two different Jen Burrall engagement rings featured. Natalie of Uniquely Natalie chose our White Nested Pearl Engagement Ring as her favorite in this week’s Currently Loving post at the beginning of the week and on Wednesday Aubin wrote about why she loves her Nested White Topaz Engagement Ring.

In light of the recent frenzy over Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announcing their engagement, Natalie Portman getting married, and Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger revealing their plans to wed, TLC’s Head Honcho Adrianne shared her thoughts on why we’re obsessed with celebrity weddings (and why it’s okay that we are) in a post called “Celebrity wedding porn and the rule of law.”

Newlyweds Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied

Why do we care about Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied’s wedding?

Yesterday we posted a musical interlude based around the personalities of three of our engagement rings. Each of the rings had three songs associated with them, like our nested white pearl engagement ring with gold nest paired with songs like “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by The Beach Boys. To check out the full list of rings and songs, click here.

We’re all rushing around today so we didn’t have time to appear in this week’s Fancy Dress Friday picture. Luckily, our resident Turtle Love Commitee agreed to make an appearance in the photo for us and even agreed to model some of our vintage rings. Don’t you think they look marvelous?
