Becki and Jeremiah’s Engagement Story

I have been looking at wedding stuff with my friend Becki for years now, so when we randomly ended up ogling vintage rings at TurtleLove.com on her iPhone at a festival one afternoon, I didn’t think much of it. This is just what girls do. But after posting a few comments about it on Instagram, I got a message from my dear friend’s boyfriend asking about the website and what kind of ring she wanted. Needless to say, I was surprised, happy, and oh-so-shocked that he confided in me about this secret! Excitedly, I led him to the website, and he started to tell me his plans and get my opinions on the perfect engagement scenario.

My friend Becki has always discussed wanting a friend there for the moment. As a photographer herself, it would only make sense that she would want to have photos as well. But, Jeremiah also wanted to play off their love for travel and music and get down on one knee in the center of Central Park before a concert. A weekend away was a great setting, but with New York being a good 11 hour drive from their home in Ohio, there wasn’t much of a chance of many friends who would be able to take the trip. Except me, as I had moved to only a few hours outside of NYC. I planned to travel to the city to take photos of them on the Bow Bridge as they got engaged, being so secretive as to not even tell my husband. I actually told Aubin at TurtleLove.com before anyone else!

Indeed, it turned out to be a perfect moment. Becki has been my friend for a long time and is one of my closest and dearest friends, and I couldn’t have been happier to see the smile on her face that day. Jeremiah even sneaked in a fancy brunch before the big moment to ensure they looked snazzy for the shots. My heart was aflutter waiting for them and trust me, with as many people filtering through Central Park that day, I thought for sure I was going to miss them. The pictures turned out perfectly though and the engagement went smoothly. She loved her ring, a vintage piece from TurtleLove.com. that couldn’t have been more perfect for her.

Currently Loving: Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950

Today’s Currently Loving guest post is from Laura of Sweeter Salt, who named our Clementine Vintage Diamond Engagement Ring circa 1950:

When I was asked by Turtle Love Co. to name a vintage engagement ring my mind went right to my favorite girls’ name - Clementine! Though unusual, it’s a classic - one of the reasons why I love it. I’ve never actually met a Clementine, but when I think about the name I come up with a few adjective: vivacious, spirited, timeless, and stylish, to name a few. Oh, and I couldn’t help but to think of Clementine’s namesake - the tasty little citrus fruit. To me, “Clementine” is a woman inspired by France, with classic taste, and a love for sunny color.

Can’t you just see her? She’s wearing her gorgeous ring, sipping a French 75, wearing that amazing orange lace dress and serving up some serious wit? Ah, to be Clementine.

Currently Loving: Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Band

When we asked our Vintage Style Council member of the month Shell from Kitty and Buck to write a guest post for us about our Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring, she created something truly unique. Below you’ll find a pictorial story she put together that shows the lives of the people who may have originally owned the ring. The images in the collages below come from a pinboard she created on Pinterest.

I created this pin board after seeing the Shelly Vintage Diamond and Sapphire Wedding Ring for the first time and wondering how it came to be. I conjured up an images of a young couple meeting and falling in love in the 1950′s, going on dates in milk bars and drive ins, dancing and going bowling.

The part where they realize ‘this is serious’ and tell their friends, family and anyone who will listen. A more comfortable easiness surrounds them, a familiarity with each other.

They are engaged and married and finally, a honeymoon camping under the stars.

The final images show their new life together, forming memories and a future together. I love imagining the life of a vintage item before it came into my life. I hope you enjoyed the journey of the Shelly ring.

When I first saw this ring, I thought about Audrey Hepburn, strolling the streets of New York, eating her pastry + sipping her coffee in the quiet morning air. I thought about Allie and Noah laughing, jumping off a rope swing into the pond. I thought about my grandparents, married at 17, now celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary. Simple, pretty, comforting loveliness.

Currently Loving: Classic Floating Pearl Necklace with Red Silk

There are few pieces of jewelry as classic as a simple pearl necklace and today’s guest post from our Vintage Style Council Member of the Month highlights Turtle Love Co.‘s modern twist on the classic, our Classic Floating Pearl Necklace with Red Silk.

Hey! I’m Laura from sweeter salt, a lifestyle blog where I yap all about affordable fashion, vintage, and healthy food. Since moving from New York to Portland four years ago my style has become undeniably influenced by Maine’s nautical culture, so when I saw Turtle Love Co’s Classic Floating Pearl Necklace with Red Silk I fell for its red and white charm.

I love layering, and mixing newer pieces with vintage. I would wear this necklace with a longer vintage gold chain (the one below is Chanel, which isn’t exactly in my budget, but you get the point). Since I also love pretending that I’m a sailor, I couldn’t resist pairing it with some cut-offs, stripes, and boat shoes. Yellow is my favorite color, so this cardigan is a must (especially with a little sea breeze in the air). Also, love me a vintage Dooney and Bourke.

So, if the opportunity presents itself to go yachting this summer, get a hold of this darling necklace, some sail wear, and possibly a glass of champagne, and hit the high seas!

Currently Loving: Branching Necklace and Gold Branches Ring

Today’s Currently Loving post is a double feature in that it features two similarly themed pieces of jewelry from two of our designers. For her style board, Ashley from Sweet William chose the Branching Necklace by Jivita Harris-Casey and Gold Branches Ring by Michele Scholnick.

Ashley chose the pieces because “they are beautiful everyday pieces that can be worn on their own or layered with other necklaces or rings to create a more laid-back, bohemian feel.”

The style board built around these two arboreal accessories is meant to reflect the style of a certain type of woman. “The ring is so romantic that it can even be something as special as an engagement ring for that right kind of girl…She is a lover of nature and all things inspired from it,” Ashley explains, “Her style is so easy and sometimes simple, but worn in such a romantic, free-spirited kind of way. It gives such a happy, positive feeling that would make any day better.”

Hello all my little Turtle Love Co. Blog readers! My name is Emily, and I blog over at Tales for Karina Marie. I’ve become a pretty big admirer of Turtle Love Co. since I was recently introduced to it, and was asked to put together an outfit from inspiration using one of their pieces of jewelry. Since I’m a full-time working lady in the fashion industry, it’s important that I look my best everyday. The most amazing thing about my office is that basically anything goes! You can wear jeans, shorts, whatever! You can choose to go super casual one day, and decide to dress to the tens on another day. During the summer, I tend to dress more on the casual side, but since fall is just around the corner, I decided to spruce things up a bit.

Currently Loving: Vintage Art Deco Style Diamond Necklace

Our vintage collection not only includes stunning antique engagement rings, but also a few equally gorgeous vintage necklaces. Today’s Currently Loving pin board comes to you from Laura of Fore Front Fashion, who chose our Vintage Art Deco Style Diamond Necklace as her current favorite.

Laura’s pin board is full of fabulous flapper imagery, inspired by both the Vintage Art Deco Style Diamond Necklace and her own interest in the roaring 20s. “I am a big 1920′s flapper fiend so I am naturally drawn to anything that encompasses that spirit,” she says. “I loved this necklace and pictured myself wearing it in a flapper-inspired ensemble, out on a town with my friends. Preferably in Paris in the 1920′s, but I suppose it’ll have to do around Portland instead.”

Currently Loving: Sterling Silver Wide Vine Ring by Midori Ferris Wayne

“Since finding the person I want to spend the rest of my life with, I’ve always had a ‘dream wedding‘ in mind,” says Carly. “This dream includes lots of vintage touches, beautiful decor, and a rustic outdoor vibe.” Carly’s pin board includes a country chic ceremony in a barn, green pressed glass goblets for the reception, a vintage wedding dress, and one of our Vintage Diamond Engagement Rings. “I’ve always wanted an antique ring and a stunning mid-length dress,” she explains.

The wedding band at the heart of the pinboard, the Sterling Silver Wide Vine Ring, is crafted by Midori Ferris Wayne in her studio in Sonoma County, California.
