These earrings are made of recycled sterling silver wire, and they're handcrafted by Susan Bryant Caron in Freeport, Maine. The loosely coiled bead is a timeless shape that contains elements both of calm stillness and abandoned movements.
The spiral is a form that takes on many faces in the natural world: snail shells, the chambered nautilus, fingerprints, hurricanes, fiddleheads, and the double helix of our own DNA. The very galaxy we are a part of is arranged in a spiral, solar systems and stars and nebulae rvolving around a central axis. The spiral often symbolizes rebirth, continual change, and evolution, and it predates any written language. To the Hopi of the American southwest, the spiral symbolized the broadening of consciousness after a long journey.
These sterling silver earrings measure 8mm x .75".
