    The gentle-natured man said, his Spanish accent heavy, "Do you know much about the Monstera?"  I shook my head looking at the strange tree with its tentacle-like aerial roots in front of me.  "She is beautiful but very deadly.  The monstera is entirely poisonous except for these little fruits," he explained, plucking a green cob from the tree.  He sliced off its skin, handed it to me, and nodded in encouragement for me to take a bite.  Hesitantly I nibbled off a piece but was delighted at the flavors of banana, mango, and pineapple I tasted.  I could see the gentle-natured man smile out of the corner of my eye.
