Cultivating Community is committed to the vision of a world in which all families, regardless of income, eat the healthiest, freshest produce; a world in which youth focus their prodigious energies on helping themselves and their neighbors; a world in which people care deeply about the land, their communities, and each other.

• Created meaningful service and training experience with stipends for 138 young people, more than half of whom have been from immigrant and refugee families and 87 percent of whom have low incomes.


• In eight seasons our youth, staff and volunteers have grown and distributed over 100,000 pounds of organic produce to the families and elders who need it most.


• Created or supported 14 school garden and school food projects.


• Established Maine's only certified organic urban farm, restoring ecological health and agricultural productivity to some badly mistreated and neglected land on Franklin Arterial in Portland.

• Modeled a just and ecologically sustainable food system by growing food organically, growing it where people live, and growing it with and for those who need it most.
• Actively maintained the agricultural intent of a 25-acre farm in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.


• In our 2008 season alone, we engaged 1,706 youth and 536 adult community members in sustaining themselves, the land, and our community.
