     I lived in California once. We had almond trees! I had never seen one before, and watched in curiosity and excitement as the tree blossomed with white flowers that perfumed the air with an invigorating scent before falling and littering the ground as if it were a blanket of snow. The previous owners had planted the trees many, many years, but it was us who were finally were able to enjoy the very first harvest of Merced and Peerless cultivars. Such a long process for such a small food. What patience we found in those trees.
