Handmade using oxidized recycled silver, Susan Bryant Caron crafts these earrings in Freeport, Maine. These spiral wire beads are studded with small pearls, and are reminiscent of constellations in the night sky.
The spiral is a form that takes on many faces in the natural world: snail shells, the chambered nautilus, fingerprints, hurricanes, fiddleheads, and the double helix of our own DNA. The very galaxy we are a part of is arranged in a spiral, solar systems and stars and nebulae revolving around a central axis. The spiral often symbolizes rebirth, continual change, and evolution, and it predates any written language. To the Hopi of the American southwest, the spiral symbolized the broadening of consciousness after a long journey.
These pearl earrings measure 8mm x .75".
